Before creating the puppets of "The Ballad of Phineas P. Gage" Gretchen spent time researching the numerous characters and events that occur during the play. Each puppet needed to resemble the persona of the character it represented.
With photographs and text to aid her, Gretchen began to sketch out her ideas. Above and to the left are details of her illustrations, depicting David Ferrier and John Harlow.
